ZULA Choral Reading

One Voice. One Book. One Heart.

The ZULA Choral Reading is our commitment to making reading joyful, engaging, and empowering for every child. Two times a year, we bring together children, parents, educators, and community members from all social backgrounds for one of the largest read-along events ever created — a vibrant celebration of stories, voices, and connection.

This is a public event, open and welcoming to everyone. But at its core, the ZULA Choral Reading has a deeper purpose: to close the reading proficiency gap and ensure that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has access to books, stories, and a supportive reading community.

Through this initiative, ZULA partners with underserved district schools to provide free books to their students, raise funds to build Tiny Libraries in schools that have none, and diversify existing collections in schools already working with us. We believe that a rich, inclusive library is the foundation of literacy, belonging, and imagination.

At the ZULA Choral Reading, children stand side by side — privileged and underprivileged, multilingual and monolingual, shy and confident — united by a simple motto:
“I read because you read.” In this non-judgmental space, every child is seen, every voice matters, and reading becomes a shared act of empathy and empowerment.

This is the ZULA Magic: a community reading together, learning together, and growing together — one voice, one book, one heart.
If your school would like to join the ZULA Choral Reading initiative, register your interest and explore partnership opportunities
